“In the social sphere, humility and the belief that you can always learn something from the person in front of you is the most important thing and the only way to make real progress”

Héctor Colunga Cabaleiro

«For his continuous, coherent and committed entrepreneurial work».

During Héctor’s time at the Marianao Foundation, he worked in the Youth area and was head of Communication and Participation, leading the VPK and Esfera projects, among other highly-praised initiatives. This period proved to be a very enriching learning experience for him, inspiring him to return home to Gijón in order to transfer the knowledge he had obtained. In 2010 he took the helm of Mar de Niebla, an organisation through which he runs a global community project to fight inequality and poverty. This initiative has become a reference project in the La Calzada neighbourhood of the city of Gijón.

He currently holds many positions in social organisations, such as the Advisory Council of the Esplai Foundation, the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) in Asturias, the OIKIA Community Development Promotion Network and the Spanish Service-Learning Network. He also collaborates with and advises social entities.
